Hultsfreds kommun
Karl XI’s fortlet is an older form of a defense facility. The fortlet was built to stop the advance of the Danes during a period when Sweden often was at war with their neighboring country. The fortlet has the shape of a star, approx. 35 x 35 meters in size, with a corner tower. It was built in 1688, after King Charles XI’s inspection of the regiment. The flat areas around Hultsfred were the Royal Kalmar Regiment’s permanent training spot in the years 1796–1918.
