According to legend, the cave was used to keep the rebel leader Nils Dacke hidden from King Gustav Vasa’s soldiers, (when) after he had been wounded in the last decisive battle at Virserum against the king’s men in the Easter week of 1543. That Dacke was also kept hidden on various local farms in the area is well known because four men in the area were punished, amongst others the priest Mr. Lars in Näshult who was punished with a fine of 35 oxen. After the battle, Dacke fled with his men south towards his home areas in southern Småland and northern Blekinge.
