In the forest outside Björkmossa stands a cross, which tells a story about a murder. Carved into the wood, it says: ”I lie asleep and am not dead, Lord, forgive the sins that brought me down in 1669”. There are several old legends about what might have happened. One is about the maid Lucia Hemmingsdotter being beaten to death because she had a child and was unmarried. The suitor had become engaged to another. Another about a wandering tradesman who was robbed and murdered by a farmer in the village. No one knows what happened, but the cross still stirs the imagination today.
