Lake Linden and the Lönneberga area

The Lönneberga area has connections to two famous authors: Astrid Lindgren and Albert Engström. The stories about Emil from Lönneberga made Astrid Lindgren famous far beyond both the borders of the region and the country. Engström’s birthplace is in the village of Bäckefall. Both authors are related. Astrid Lindgren’s grandmother’s mother Sofia from the same village was the sister of Albert Engström’s grandfather.

Lönneberga’s current church is from the 1870s. The medieval church site is a few hundred meters south of today’s church. Other places that are important for the history of the parish are the vicarage environment and the beautifully situated folk museum. Legend has it that Lake Linden was formed by a giant when he was digging up a shelter from the wind.
