Nils Dacke was an ordinary Småland farmer who lived in the sparsely populated area in the borderland between Småland and Blekinge. His childhood home was in Södra Lindön between Vissefjärda and Gullabo. There are no reliable sources about his life, apart from King Gustav Vasa’s notes which aimed to slander Dacke. How exactly he became the leader of the peasant uprising is difficult to know 500 years later. Dackes murder of the king’s bailiffs in 1536, which he committed together with Jon Andersson, shows that the Swedish king had enraged the population, which later started the rebellion.
