Behind the Mörlunda church is the village’s only rune stone. It reveals that someone ”…had this stone erected after Härulf Härjulv, his father and Assur and Inger”. The rune stone may very well have stood at one of the Emån’s valley’s Iron Age burial fields. In Emådalen’s landscape there are traces of people who have lived here for several thousand years.
Mörlunda church has been a meeting place for parishioners at least since the beginning of the 14th century. The church that exists today was built in 1840. The place outside the church was developed into a parish center with a rectory, an inn, a sheriff’s office (which was- the police of the time) – and a school.
