The battery factory

The battery factory Boliden batteri AB started the production of lead batteries in 1952, with 40 employees. In the 1970s, the factory was the largest in Scandinavia. The main building was approximately 26,000 m2. Over the years, the factory was also owned by Noack AB, Hawker Batteri AB and Imara Sweden AB. In the 1990s, the company Varta Batteri AB had 440 employees. The factory was in operation for 47 years, until 1999.

In total, around 380,000 tonnes of lead have been handled here. During 2018 and 2019, the industrial buildings were demolished and the land was cleaned of lead, partly with the help of a government grant from the Environmental Protection Agency of SEK 18 million. About 12,000 cubic meters of contaminated soil was excavated and taken to landfill.
