Why are there so many wooden house factories in Småland?

There have been 86 wooden house factories in Småland – out of the country’s 140. The wooden house industry became a way to make use of one of Småland’s best assets as regards the areas raw material. Several wooden house factories started as sawmills. The idea of ​​selling ready-made houses with catalogs had its breakthrough in the 1910s. In Småland, there were already many craftsmen skilled in woodwork thanks to various wood industries and carpentry factories. Here there were also forests and timber, hydropower and railways for transport.

In the municipality of Hultsfred, there have been 108 furniture industries, 40 carpentry factories, 20 sawmills and 8 wooden house factories. Examples of other wooden house factories in Småland are for example: Aneby-Hus, Boro-hus in Landsbro, Eksjöhus, Fogelfors hus, Gullringshus, Hjältevadshus, Myresjöhus and Nordiska Trähus in Vrigstad.
